Ever wonder who is serving the documents you send to ABC Legal? In this blog series, we'll be shining a spotlight onto some of our star process servers and the amazing work they do.
A Colorado native, Enrique Fernandez, is a process server in Boulder County, Colorado. He has spent the last 6 months of his first year as a process server with ABC Legal. Outside of process serving, Enrique also works as a Lead Pretrial Case Manager.
Enrique has a passion for sports. He loves both playing and watching sports. However, family is one of Enrique’s biggest passions. As he puts it, “Everything I do is for them“. His greatest achievements are his 3 daughters and draws inspiration from his father.
Enrique recently took time out of his busy schedule to tell us more about his life and time as a process server.
What areas do you serve?
I mostly serve the Boulder County and Weld County area - about 5 to 7 zip codes.
How did you get started as a process server?
I have a friend that also does process serving. She talked to me about serving and referred me.
What training and/or support have you received from ABC Legal?
They [ABC Legal] answered all the questions I had [at the beginning of my training]. To this day, they continue to be helpful with any questions that may come up.
What is your favorite part of the job?
The challenge of going out and trying to catch people that need to get served.
What is your Least favorite part of the job?
Having to do multiple attempts and having to keep going back to an address over and over.
What safety precautions do you take to keep yourself safe?
Scope out the area. I look around at cars, windows, & people that may be around the address. I make sure to always have my phone with me.
One indicator that makes it hard to serve is going to locked apartments or businesses. I try and find phone numbers, go to leasing offices, or just wait and hope that someone will come out or let me into the building.
What is your favorite serving story?
One time I was trying to serve this person that was avoiding me and would not answer the door after multiple attempts. One night when I attempted, they opened the door and the look in their eye was of surprise - like, “Oh you got me”. As I drove down the road to leave, another car pulled up to the house and someone started unloading groceries. I think the individual had opened the door believing it was the person who was bringing groceries and instead it was me serving them.
Tell us something about you that not many people know.
Growing up, my dream job was to be a U.S. Marshall.
Enrique excels at successfully completing each job, effectively meeting all (customer, court, & ABC’s) requirements, and submitting completed proofs of service. Overall, Enrique is a superstar process server and ABC Legal values all the work he puts into every serve.
