Ever wonder who is serving the documents you send to ABC Legal? In this blog series, we'll be shining a spotlight onto some of our star process servers and the amazing work they do.
Spending the last 9 years with ABC Legal, Taunya Butler is a process server just outside of Portland, Oregon. While out on her serves, Taunya enjoys listening to true crime podcasts. In her free time, she adores spending time with her husband and two sons. Her passion overflows for her boys - whom she considers her greatest achievement.
Taunya recently took time out of her busy schedule to tell us more about her life and time as a process server.
Social justice, inclusivity, and raising my boys to grow up to be great men.
My 9-year-old son. He has dyslexia and has to work twice as hard to learn to read and write.
I serve 7 zip codes in Oregon.
I think the process is streamlined. I can be autonomous - I don't feel micromanaged at all.
[At the time,] I was a Mom of a 3-year-old and 1-year-old. I had stopped working to stay home with them. I found myself itching to do something outside of the house, but didn't want a set schedule. I happened upon an ad looking for a process server and I thought, "What the heck, I'll send my resume". The rest is history.
I was trained by Scott A. who took me out [on serves] quite a few times until I felt comfortable on my own. Laurice A. is our dispatcher and she is amazing and so supportive! I always feel like I can reach out to her if I have any questions or issues in the field.
The flexibility and working by myself.
I don't love bringing bad news to people and sometimes feel bad doing it.
I keep dog mace on me.
I was serving someone in an RV park. […] They told me they barely had enough money for their electric bill. They said they had been sending money to a guy, who was clearly scamming them, and they had lost multiple thousands of dollars. They told me they didn't even have money for groceries. I told them to stop giving that person money and they was being scammed. I left and came back with $100 worth of groceries. To this day, I still wonder what happened next for them.
I have rode a camel in India with the Taj Mahal right behind me.
Taunya excels at submitting completed proofs of service, as well as effectively meeting all (customer, court, & ABC’s) requirements with her skills and speed. Overall, Taunya is a superstar process server and ABC Legal values all the work she puts into every serve.
