TLU Live hosted a dynamic four-day event in Huntington Beach, California, from June 5 through 8, 2024, bringing together over 600 trial attorneys nationwide.
Participants learned from the best in the field. They had the opportunity to attend four lecture tracks and seven small group skills training workshops led by more than 50 leading trial attorneys renowned for their expertise and success.
Attendees networked with a vibrant group of professionals throughout the week. They enjoyed themed evening after-parties, such as Wild West and Barbie Pink & White, facilitating connections and camaraderie. Read on for more details in our event recap.
Engaging and Innovative Workshops
TLU Live Huntington Beach offered a wealth of knowledge through various workshops every day of the event. While attorneys who attended workshops missed the lectures for that day, each one was recorded. For the first 30 days after the event, participants have complimentary access to TLUonDemand to watch anything they didn't catch at the event or rewatch anything they want to see again.
On Wednesday, seventeen workshops were held covering a wide range of topics, such as strengthening cross-examination skills with Nick Wooldridge. Olivia Espinosa and Steve Hohman demonstrated how attorneys could use improvisational acting techniques to improve witness control, deliver impactful cross-examinations on the fly, and enhance trial performance.
On Thursday morning, there was a fresh round of workshops. Jonathan Michaels led one on developing skills to challenge defense experts, using techniques that reveal bias and weaken credibility. In the evening, TLU Live had 12 session options available for attendees. Joon Hong taught attorneys how to "let the jury solve your problems," while Steven Debosier and Chad Dudley offered proven strategies for expanding your personal injury firm.
By Friday, everyone was in the swing of things. That day, there was a fascinating mix of sessions. Lloyd Bell offered a unique and multifaceted workshop on the philosophy of winning medical malpractice cases, drawing from Sun Tzu's teachings in The Art of War. Participants in a story workshop with Ibiere Seckalso had the opportunity to learn about framing their loss of consortium damages.
The event rounded out on Saturday with 14 more workshops. Alicia Campbell taught attendees how to use data, AI, and empirical studies for optimal case selection and development. In Christian Morris' session, attorneys were given a roadmap for starting voir dire, presenting case issues to the jury, and addressing jurors who have made statements that could lead to their removal for cause.
TLU Live workshops covered many topics, providing attendees with cutting-edge techniques and practical tools to enhance their legal practices.
Top-Notch Lectures
Industry leaders gave standout lectures throughout the week, providing courtroom strategies to take your cases—and your firm—to the next level.
Attendees could choose from four lecture tracks. On track 1, available Thursday, professionals had the opportunity to hear from attorneys like Dorothy Clay Sims, Will Sykes, and Sach Oliver, who covered numerous deposition techniques. Attendees learned how to use AI in expert depositions, how to incorporate 30(b)(6) depositions in their overall case strategy, and how to employ the "Depositions are Trial" method.
On track 2, available Friday, Steven Debosier and Chad Dudley focused on exposing the villain in your case, ensuring that the jury delivers full justice for your plaintiff. Later that day, R. Rex Parris and Khail Parris discussed strategies for obtaining full compensation from a defendant drunk driver.
On Saturday, attendees could choose to follow tracks 3 or 4. On track 3, Gary A. Dordick and Nick Rowley focused on methods for trying cases better. Later that day, Haytham Faraj highlighted advanced skills and techniques to make your story the only story the jury remembers. On track 4, Mark Kosieradzki, one of the nation's top experts on discovery technique, strategy, and law, simplified complex discovery topics to assist attorneys in obtaining the discovery they're entitled to. Craig Peters presented innovative approaches to encourage jurors to deliberate on amounts exceeding the requested sum.
These outstanding lectures represent a small sampling of the insights provided throughout the week. Participants could select from numerous offerings to improve courtroom strategies, refine cases, and advance their firm.

We had the pleasure of getting to know a successful Las Vegas attorney named Al Lasso at TLU Live. He won a nice bottle of bourbon from ABC Legal's raffle. He was so excited that he poured each of our team members a glass on the spot. While talking with Lasso, he emphasized the importance of attending conferences like one.
