What do these document types mean and how do I handle them?
"Original Documents" refer to the master copies of legal papers and are distinct from scanned, photocopied, or printed versions. These documents are the same physical pages used since the start of the court proceedings.
While jurisdiction rules vary, cases involving Child Support, Subpoenas, and International Services often require service with Original Documents.
How Do I Know If I have Received Original/International Documents?
Original Documents are always mailed to the mailing address we have on file for you. They typically include a colored coversheet and are clearly marked with "Return Original Documents" on the coversheet. They will also state "In Transit" in your ABC mobile app.
What Do I Do with Original/International Documents Once Received?
- Mark the job "Received" in ABC Mobile - never select "Received" before you have the documents in hand! This will cause the job to go overdue.
- Serve the documents like normal - be sure to follow any special handling instructions carefully, as they may have unique requirements.
⚠️ Don't Attempt New Addresses if Obtained!
For Original/International job orders, new addresses should not be entered in ABC Mobile App or attempted due to varying process serving laws. Serve only at the address on the ABC Legal coversheet, which is also reflected in ABC Mobile.
If service at the provided address is unsuccessful, please document the details of your attempt in ABC Mobile, including the reason service could not be completed.
What Do I Do with Original/International Documents After an Address Is Non-Served?

Please return the Original/International Documents promptly once the job is non-served. Utilize the provided Business Return Envelope to mail documents back to ABC.
If you misplace your return envelope, please send a request to internationalinfo@abclegal.com to be provided one.What If the Business Return Envelope (BMR) Is Missing?
If the return envelope is missing, use a regular envelope with “Attn: International” written on the front to avoid delays in processing and payment.
If you need a shipping label, you can request via Live Chat. When prompted in chat, select "Other" then "Request Supplies".
When Do International Documents Get Removed from My App?
These job types will be removed from your ABC Mobile App and will generate a proof and payment once the returned documents are received and scanned in by an ABC Legal Office.
