Posting Service: Proper Procedure and Guidelines
In certain cases, legal documents must be posted on the subject's property rather than served in person. This typically applies to:
• Notices to Vacate
• Court-approved postings (only when explicitly permitted in the special handling instructions)
You are responsible for reviewing the signed order from the judge, along with any special handling instructions, court & customer requirements to confirm the job's eligibility for posting service.
How to Properly Post Documents
✅ Affix Documents Securely, Without Causing Damage
- Use blue painter's tape to attach documents to the front door for easy removal.
- Alternatively, staple a rubber band to a corner of the documents and hang them on the door handle.

🚫 Do NOT Post on Mailboxes (Under Any Circumstances)
- It is illegal to place or remove anything from a mailbox, including legal documents and contact cards.
- Even if the defendant requests it, never use a mailbox to deliver or store documents.
🚫 Do NOT damage property
- Documents should be affixed in a manner that does not cause property damage and is easy in removal.

How Can I Tell a Job Is a Posting Job?
Depending on the state laws and case type, you will be able to see a job is eligible for posting in two ways:
Alternate Service Tag
If a job is eligible for posting due to Alternate Service being granted, you will see a yellow tag stating, "Alt Service" following an instruction of "Granted motion for alternate service - Mail Accordingly".
⚠️ NOTE: The instruction "Granted motion for alternate service - Mail Accordingly" does not mean that you only mail the documents. Please be sure to read the approved order from the judge to confirm what you need to do to complete service.
Job Special Handling
If a job is eligible to post through other opportunities outside of Alternate Service, you will see the approval for posting in the instructions.
